Sound Design student Andrew Gluck obtains position at Global TV BC as a sound technician. Andrew explains a bit about his work and a thank you to Stylus! I'm working as a studio tech on the morning news from 4:30 till 10am. Its really early and I've had a tough time adjusting to going to bed at 9 pm.. The job has been pretty exciting this far. Its really fast paced and a little intimidating knowing everything is live. I think there is a 2 second delay from Studio to Every ones tv's. My role is basically to set up the broadcasters mics in the morning and mix levels during the show with guests music commercials etc etc.. Seems easy at first but we get a ton of video feeds from production, and audio feeds from the anchors who are on site in the morning and its tough to have 6 or 7 faders moving constantly. Its amazing how fast everyone starts kidding around when they're off Camera too. Basically we have a musical guest come to promote their new album and set them up for a performance. Most of the time it seems to be a single artist with an acoustic guitar, but last week had to mic a set of turn tables, two guitars, two vox and a set of Bongo's. Once they're miced up, we have literally 2 1/2 mins to do a sound check, get some compression and verb going before commercial comes to and end... Again, its intense with such a limited amount of time. I'm really respecting and appreciating my education from Stylus and all of my instructors right now. Thank you. |
